Vision, Values, Ethos & Mission

A statement on our schools ethos and values.

Our vision and values are at the heart of everything that we do here at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.

Work hard, love tenderly, walk humbly: trusting in Jesus

Our mission

By using Christ as our guide, we are encouraged to love one another, to value people for who they are, not what they do, to treat each other with respect and tolerance so that our understanding of the world may be enriched. We have high expectations for all children and aim to provide every child with a strong foundation so that they leave our school equipped with the knowledge and skills that they will need for the next stage of their learning journey, and beyond. Along with ensuring confidence and proficiency in academic subjects, we provide opportunities for children to develop positive attitudes to learning and key skills such as creativity, resilience, problem solving and independence, skills that they will be able to apply throughout their lives.

Ethos

Our aim is to assist everyone who is involved with the school in their faith development by helping them to be aware of God’s presence in their lives, to deepen their faith and enhance their personal and emotional development.

Worship

We aim to develop a ‘team’ approach to Christian development by encouraging everyone to become involved in the faith life of the school; Family, School and Parish.

Curriculum

Our aim is to provide a balanced curriculum which:

  • Promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society.
  • Prepares pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
  • Involves children in all areas of learning and expertise.
  • Expects the highest standards of achievement and behaviour from all.

Religious Education Curriculum

We aim to help everyone to understand the religious/spiritual dimension of life: what it is to be a Christian; what it is to be a Catholic; what it is to be a religiously committed person in today’s world.

Relationships within School Community

Our aim is to foster and promote good interpersonal relationships between children, all staff – teaching and non-teaching, and parents.

‘At St Joseph’s you always know there is someone you can talk to if you have a problem. Everyone looks out for each other.’

Relationships with Home, Parish and Links with other Environmental Groups

Our aim is to extend our school community to be an integral part of St. Joseph’s Parish and the local community and to make everyone aware that we are all part of a wider world community, in order to prepare them to be responsible and active citizens in the world.

We respect and value the wide diversity of backgrounds from which our children come.

In line with our Mission Statement, we aim to achieve high standards through a carefully planned curriculum encompassing a wide variety of activities and experiences. We work towards creating an active and stimulating environment in which each child can develop to his/her full potential and become an able, confident and caring adult.
